Here is an Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) method for doing what photographers used to do in the darkroom. To fix a picture where backlighting put the subject in shadow - a common problem - photographers would "dodge" the print with an out-of-focus, lighter version of the negative put in the path of the enlarger light. Here's how you do this in Photoshop.
